I love working with Pit and Balcony Theatre (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pit-and-Balcony-Community-Theatre/296510023745798) because it is truly a community theatre. There are no professionals, and other than a skeleton staff no one gets paid, plus they always do a fantastic job. Obviously this play is over but be sure to “like” their facebook page and attend a play in the future. With today’s culture of cutbacks this is a simple way to support the arts. If you don’t live in the Saginaw MI area and would like to donate I’m sure they would appreciate it. Like most community theatres it costs more to run then they make each year in ticket sales so grants and sponsorships are necessary.
From Wikipedia: The Miss Firecracker Contest is a Southern literature play written by Beth Henley. It was originally produced in Los Angeles in 1980 at the Victory Theater directed by Maria Gobetti. It got a production at the Manhattan Theater Club off broadway in 1984 directed by Stephen Tobolowsky. It moved to a larger off broadway house, the Westbqnk Theater, where it ran for a year. Although not as popular as Henley’s Crimes of the Heart, The Miss Firecracker Contest has been generally well received among critics. Set in Brookhaven, Mississippi, the play explores the themes of femininity, beauty, and the need to be accepted.
