I was playing with the HD camera on my Android phone again.  This time I was on 5th Street in downtown Bay City.

It was a Wednesday night and I had a business meeting at Old City Hall.  Like usual the restaurant was so busy I had to park a block away.  Luckily the weather was nice and I didn’t mind walking.  I didn’t realize that there was going to be live music.  The music was so loud it made it hard to talk but the food was fantastic as usual.  In fact we got an extra appetizer because the waitress gave us the wrong dish and we already started eating it – score!  Great food and a good meeting.  It was a good night.

This weekend I attempted to do a shoot with models and black light.  The models came with florescent poster paint already applied to their face.  We just had basic store bought black lights.  It was difficult to get the studio dark enough and next time I will definitely book a black light shoot at night.  Because the black light puts off a very low amount of light I was left using a fast lens.  I used a 24-108 f2.8 zoom lens and a fixed 50mm f1.4.  Both lenses work great and were able to focus under the limited light.  Shooting at ISO400 I was able to get a shutter speed of around 80 to 120 and still get good illumination on the glowing paint.  After reading some blogs about shooting with black lights I decided to manually set my white balance (in post production) to 4800.  This seemed to make the images “pop” a little bit more.  Overall I was happy with the experiment and can’t wait to do it again.
