I was playing with the HD camera on my Android phone again.  This time I was on 5th Street in downtown Bay City.

It was a Wednesday night and I had a business meeting at Old City Hall.  Like usual the restaurant was so busy I had to park a block away.  Luckily the weather was nice and I didn’t mind walking.  I didn’t realize that there was going to be live music.  The music was so loud it made it hard to talk but the food was fantastic as usual.  In fact we got an extra appetizer because the waitress gave us the wrong dish and we already started eating it – score!  Great food and a good meeting.  It was a good night.

Although I’m not happy with the quality of the images I have to admit that using the cell phone as a point and shoot camera is very convenient.  There are more and more apps for making the pictures more interesting.  My son told me about the HDR Camera by Almalence for Android.  There is a free and a paid version of the app.  I am using the free version and it’s pretty cool.  The paid version is only $3.99 and appears to give a lot more control over the image.  When I first used the app and tried to adjust the image it gave me an error that I must upgrade.  So with the free version I’m stuck with 4 presets.  As long as I can hold the phone still enough well the app snaps 3 images, the quality isn’t bad.

With gas prices going crazy this spring I may just rent one for my business trip to Detroit next week.  I crunched some numbers and with gas prices at $4 per gallon I could actually save money by renting a Prius instead of driving my SUV.  Plus the Prius is pretty cool and fun to drive.

I was able to take the new Scion iQ out for a test drive and get some pictures today. This little car get great gas mileage and is comfortable for 2 people. Even though there is a back seat there isn’t much leg room. You could fit a third person behind the passenger seat if it is moved forward. Without people in the back there is a surprising amount of storage room. The Scion iQ is fun to drive and with very responsive steering this little car is easy to park.

This site not only features Today’s Photo but has reviews, tips and more.  One of the great features offered by Today’s Photo is the Cameras for Kids Program.  I don’t know why I had never heard or thought of this before.  The program takes used photography equipment – of any type or age – and gives it to kids.  Kids love pictures even more than adults (so it seems) and this is a fantastic way to allow kids to get involved.  After reading this part of the website I went through all my gear that I haven’t touched in years and figured I’d box some up and send it to the program in Meadowview, VA.
